Jide è un'azienda cinese fondata da ex dipendenti Google, che a inizio anno ha presentato Remix OS, un fork di Android che assomiglia più ad un sistema desktop, adatto quindi per tablet e PC. Ma questo probabilmente lo sapevate già.

Dopo il Remix Ultra-Tablet, che tanto successo ha riscosso su Kickstarter, tra circa una settimana partirà una nuova campagna di raccolta fondi, questa volta per Remix Mini, un piccolo PC / box TV che mira a portare l'esperienza "Android desktop" sui vostri monitor, ad un prezzo concorrenziale (20$).

L'idea è che Remix Mini sia al contempo un PC secondario per chi già ne possiede uno, ma anche quello principale per tutti coloro che non possono permettersene uno canonico.

Remix Mini sarà compatibile con molte periferiche USB e

 Bluetooth, mouse e tastiere in primis, ma l'azienda sta anche lavorando per poterlo controllare tramite smartphone e tablet.

Nel frattempo, Jide ha finalmente svelato le caratteristiche tecniche complete di Remix Mini, dalle quali spicca una seconda versione, più potente, che avrà un prezzo di 40$ per i primi finanziatori: il doppio del modello base. Ma andiamo con ordine e vediamo queste specifiche:

  • CPU: Allwinner quad-core Cortex-A53 64-bit a 1,2 GHz con GPU Mali-400
  • RAM: 1 / 2 GB
  • Memoria interna: 8 / 16 GB eMMC espandibile (con microSD fino a 128 GB)
  • Connettività: Wi-Fi: 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0,
  • Porte: 2x USB, HDMI, Ethernet 10/100, jack audio, infrarossi
  • Dimensioni: 2,6 x 12,4 x 8,8 cm
  • OS: Remix OS 2.0 (basato su Lollipop)

Come vedete le differenze tra le due versioni sono sostanzialmente nella RAM e nella memoria interna che raddoppiano, così come doppio diventa il prezzo, da 20 a 40$ (forse si poteva fare di meglio con la seconda versione), ma il processore rimane lo stesso, e non è certo di classe elevatissima, anche se non si tratta comunque di un sistema che punti tutto sulle performance.

Evolution of Android in a Mini PC, on Kickstarter starting at $20

July 8, 2015 (Beijing) – Android is the operating system of the future and Jide Technology, a tech startup founded by three ex-Google engineers in early 2014, wants to accelerate the arrival of this future. Jide has built Remix OS based on Android 5.0 and intends for it to be the evolutionary link between Android as it is and Android as it should be.

Next step for Android

Android is the most popular OS in the world and runs in phones and tablets while Android Wear and Android Auto have entered into the wearables and automobile spaces respectively. However, Android has yet to be adapted for ease of use and productivity in PCs. The idea of a productively useful Android PC has continued to remain conceptual at best.

“For Android to truly take its next step, it needs to be optimized for content creation and productivity in a PC environment and go beyond the mobile environment,” said Jeremy Chau, Jide’s CEO said recently in an interview. “We innovated Remix OS to do just that and take Android to another level.”

Remix Mini on Kickstarter

Jide created the Remix Mini – a fully functional PC running Remix OS – and will reward backers with it through its second Kickstarter campaign, coming in mid-July, in which every backer receives a Remix Mini. The lowest starting tier is $20. The campaign will feature two versions of the Remix Mini: (1) 1G RAM/8GB storage; (2) 2G RAM/16GB storage. News on this campaign, including launch date and time, will be released on their official FB group page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/remixmini/) and on their website (http://www.jide.com/en/mini).

Their first Kickstarter campaign which concluded this past April, showed that Remix OS can bring PC productivity to an Android tablet. Now, Jide is out to showcase the versatility of Remix OS by running it on an actual PC. As water fits into the vessel it’s poured into, so Remix OS aims to fit seamlessly into various computing form factors.
