Niente fotocamera MEMS per il Nexus 5: Oppo sarà il primo produttore ad impiegarla.

A quanto pare la cura in ambito fotografico di Oppo non si è esaurita con la "fotocamera rotante" di N1, ma si spinge ben oltre. La scorsa settimana pensavamo infatti che il Nexus 5 avrebbe potuto essere il primo smartphone con fotocamera MEMS sul mercato: ci eravamo sbagliati, inutile negarlo, tant'è che Oppo vuole ribadire ora per sé questo primato, con un comunicato stampa congiunto assieme a DigitalOptics, nel quale le due aziende affermano che sarà il produttore cinese il primo ad incorporare tali ottiche nei suoi modelli (non sappiamo ancora quando e in quali modelli).

Il nostro errore, nato sulla scia delle parole di Vic Gundotra ("insanely great cameras"), è derivato dal numero di modello IMX179 presente nel log del Nexus 5 in nostro possesso, che può essere associato sia appunto alla fotocamera di DigitalOptics, che ad una a marchio Sony, recentemente impiegata ad esempio nel Meizu MX3, e che ora molti pensano sarà la stessa del Nexus 4.

Il MEMS corrispondeva sia in base alle dimensioni che alla lunghezza focale indicate nel log, laddove il sensore di Sony sembrava non coincidere. Vale la pena notare che su quest'ultimo non ci sono dei white parer dettagliati, e qualche ulteriore dettaglio è possibile trovarlo ad esempio a questo link riguardo proprio MX3.

C'è solo una cosa della quale ancora dubitiamo: secondo il manuale di assistenza, Nexus 5 dovrebbe avere uno stabilizzatore ottico d'immagine; in base a quanto ne sappiamo, il sensore di Sony non ce l'ha. Per di più, sempre nel famoso log, abbiamo trovato indicazioni di un rapporto focale di 1.61, che mette fuori gioco entrambe le fotocamere coinvolte (MEMS f/2.4 - sebbene sia variabile - e Sony f/2.0).

Siamo insomma ormai sicuri di cosa non ci sarà sul nuovo Nexus, ma non così tanto di cosa troveremo, e soprattutto ormai non siamo così convinti (lieti di essere smentiti) che sarà "insanely great".

There has been speculation on who would be the first to bring the significant benefits of mems|cam to the mobile imaging market. Last week, several technology news blogs reported that mems|cam was first being brought to market in another smartphone platform. Those reports were inaccurate.
