Popular activity tracker Moves launches on Android

19 September 2013

  • Moves app now available on Android
  • Over 2B steps tracked every day – double of what Jawbone UP says
  • Activity tracking without expensive gadgets or smartwatches
  • Tracks walking, cycling and running, 24/7. The app also senses when users are in transit and uses GPS to identify locations visited such as work or the gym
  • No need to register or login – just download & start tracking

Moves, the physical activity tracking app for iPhone, today makes its way to Android. Android users will now have access to simple and beautifully designed Moves that has been downloaded over 2.5M times since launching in January.

“We believe Moves is the most popular activity tracker available as we’re tracking over two billion steps every day,” said Sampo Karjalainen, Designer & CEO, Moves. “It is very difficult to beat the price and convenience of having the activity tracker in your phone. You simply download the app and leave it to track your daily movements.

There’s no need to buy, charge, carry and sync one more device.”

The key features of Moves include:

  • Tracks walking, cycling and running and when the user is in transit
  • Daily notification tells just how active the user has (or hasn’t) been
  • Identifies locations users have visited and plots them as a daily storyline, e.g. work, Starbucks or the gym
  • No need to register or login – just download & start tracking
  • No need to start/stop tracking – Moves works in the background
  • Slick & beautifully designed UI

Karjalainen continues, “smartphones are a great platform for mainstream activity tracking. There are already over billion iOS and Android devices on the market. Thanks to their location technology and processing power, we can show routes taken, places visited, and recognize cycling – something that activity tracking wristbands can’t do.”

Moves launched recently it’s own Connected Apps catalogue featuring apps and services built upon open Moves API.

20 services are currently live with more being added each week. The company plans to roll-out full support for Connected Apps on Android soon.

Moves is available to download for free from Google Play (Android 4.0 or above) and Apple App Store.

About Moves

Moves records any walking, cycling, and running with calories burned for each activity. The activities build a daily storyline with routes and places that can be viewed on a map. There is no need to start and stop the app, or to login or register. The app is always on so that all the user needs to do is to keep a phone in a pocket or bag.
