this doesnt work for me. when I put the phone in fastboot mode, plug into PC and type “fastboot flash recovery recovery.img” the phone either show the battery charging or it turns itself on.
    am I doing something wrong?

  • Slash

Unfortunately, fastboot mode is very unstable on Samsung Galaxy.
You should write the command before putting the phone in fastboot mode, and the press enter as soon as the phone starts up.

  • dragonv

    just some qestions to confirm.
    1. do I write this command in windows terminal (cmd)?
    2. after typing this command I got ‘waiting for device’, is there a long time waiting for the phone to respond or should it take just few seconds?
thanks a lot for all your help

  • Slash

    1. Yes, you have to write those commands in windows terminal.
    2. The command should be sent immediately. If you get waiting for device message, then probably you don’t have drivers properly installed.

  • dragonv

any idea how to solve the problem with drivers then?
I’ve tried to add some extra lines to android_usb.info file but I still end up with unknown device.

  • dragonv

thanks a lot for your help.
I managed to do it on linux as I gave up with trying on windows.
It was much quicker and it takes litteraly 5 minutes :)

    thanks a lot once more!

  • sammy

Can this be done on a mac??

  • http://www.androidworld.it cisO.o

@Sammy: yes ;) Just add “./” before every comand ;)

  • sammy

Thanks cisO.o for the fast reply :-)

  • sammy

After I do step 5 nothing happens. The phone just boots up like normal.
Can someone tell me what I did wrong???

  • http://www.androidworld.it cisO.o

Did you get the confirmation that the command was allright?
Then it’s ok if it boots up like normal, just keep following the instrucions ;)

  • sammy

I didn’t get ANY confirmation. In the terminal I input to open to the tools folder of sdk, put the galaxy in fastboot mode, then copy and paste with ./ in front of the two lines of command. And Nothing… :-(

Just discovered a rooted Galaxy I7500 with Wi-Fi tethering application installed for a wholesale price at http://www.joinwowmobile.net — It’s my dev phone. They gave me free 3G mobile service with no data transfer. Basically, I got the rooted phone and free service for development. That was easy ;-)
